As a wedding florist, I can tell you that florists are creatives at heart, and our work is truly a labor of love. We thrive when we find couples whose vision aligns with ours, and that’s where the real magic happens.

I’d love to share some tips that might help you on your wedding planning journey, when searching for the perfect florist for you.

Find Your Floral Soulmate

Start by looking for a handful of florists whose work you LOVE. Social media is a great place to state. You want your big day to be an extension of you, so finding a florist whose style and aesthetic reflects your own is key.

 Sure, budgeting is super important, but don't let price be the only guide. Your vendor experience from start to finish should be exciting and stress-free. 

When you reach out to a florist, don't just send an itemised checklist of things you need. Share your floral wish list, and tell us about your vibe. Maybe you're envisioning something sleek and paired back, or perhaps you're all about drama with dark, sculptural blooms that start a conversation amongst guests. Tell us about the other elements you love - crystal glassware, whimsical bows, or even seasonal fruits on the tables. Your florist will be able to interpret this and create a floral proposal that compliments all of the other styling elements on the day. It will be unique to you, rather than a cookie cutter approach. Florists also generally have a bank of amazing ideas in their minds that they're just itching to create! If you’re open to ideas, you can ask a florist if they have a vision they’ve been dreaming of bringing to life. Trust me, you’ll be their favourite client ever!

Budgeting

If you have a wish list but you’re worried about costs, talk to your florist about your priorities. I always tell my couples that investing in your ceremony flowers is a great idea; those "I do" moments are the ones you'll cherish in photos forever. Also, your ceremony installation can usually be relocated to your reception (weather permitting, of course!). Follow your florist’s lead on this too. They know how to best repurpose your florals.

Remember, flowers are seasonal. If your dream flowers aren’t in season, trust us to suggest alternatives that keep your vision intact.

Communication is Key

Look for a florist whose superpower is communication. Planning a wedding is no small feat, especially with all the other hats you're wearing - work, life, maybe kids etc. A florist who's on top of their game, responds promptly, and guides you through the process will make your life so much easier! You want someone who anticipates your questions, and answers them before you even think to ask.
